The speed at which a computer runs, usually given in millions of cycles per second (Megahertz). Every system has a clock that drives its CPU at a fixed speed. Around 1980, computers ran at 4 Megahertz — now for the same money you can buy a 120 Megahertz computer. See also MEGAHERTZ.
