Any scheme developed by software manufacturers to stop people from making unauthorized copies of their software. Copy protection can be anything from a serial number you enter to access a program, to a special hardware "key" you insert into the back of your computer. See also PIRACY. To make an exact copy of information in your document so you can place the duplicate in a new location. Also, to make an exact copy of a file so you can place the duplicate on a different drive.
