The speed at which a CD-ROM drive can transfer information, usually given in Kilobytes per second (KB/s). The higher the data transfer rate, the faster the drive, but the more it costs. A faster CD-ROM drive can show smoother videos on your screen, and find information quicker on your CD-ROMs.
