How often something happens — most often used to describe how often a sound wave goes through its whole cycle from peak to trough. The more cycles, the higher the frequency, so the higher-pitched the sound. Frequencies are measured in cycles per second, or Hertz. Radio and TV frequencies are also measured in Hertz.
