A CPU chip that replaces an existing CPU chip to increase the processing power of a computer. When you use an OverDrive CPU, you do not have to upgrade other parts of the computer to see an improvement in performance. Not all CPUs can be upgraded. Even if you can upgrade your old CPU, the rest of your computer may not be modern enough to make it worthwhile. In many situations, your best choice is to buy a new computer. See also CPU.
