An electronic document that carries its fonts, styles, and formatting. Using special portable document software (e.g., Acrobat from Adobe), you can create a portable document, and then send it to another computer. The receiving computer must have special "viewing" software (e.g., Acrobat Viewer) to display and print the document. However, the viewer software does not allow the document to be edited.
