A program that controls the overall activity of your computer. It is the successor of Windows 3.1. My Computer lets you view all the folders and documents stored on your computer. The Recycle Bin stores all the documents you delete and allows you to recover them later. The Start Button gives you quick access to programs and documents. You can place a shortcut to a document on your screen. This lets you quickly open documents you use regularly. The Taskbar displays the name of each open window on your screen. This lets you easily switch between the open windows. Windows 95 is more graphical than Windows 3.1 and easier to use. This dialog box lets you change the date and time in Windows 95. This dialog box lets you change the date and time in Windows 3.1. Windows 95 supports Plug and Play technology. This technology lets you add new features to a computer without complex and time-consuming installation procedures. Windows 95 lets you use up to 255 characters to name a document. Note: Windows 3.1 filenames can be up to 8 characters long with a 3 character extension (example: myletter.doc). Windows 95 comes with a program called Windows Explorer that lets you view the location of each folder and document on your computer. You can use the Explorer to manage your information. Windows 95 comes with several utilities that will improve the performance of your computer. For example, the ScanDisk utility will search for and repair hard disk errors.
